5 Online Dating Profile Picture Mistakes
Posted by admin under Uncategorized on Friday Feb 3, 2012This isn’t an opinion. It’s a fact. One study cited in the book Freakonomics shows that women are eight times more likely to click on a man’s online profile if it has a photo. That’s a statistic you can’t afford to ignore.
That said, it’s also true that the WRONG kind of picture can utterly doom any chance you have of attracting a girl online.
And while avoiding unflattering pictures matters, what can really hurt you in the online dating world is sending the wrong signal about what kind of guy you are.
Here are 5 types of guys you definitely DON’T want to be in your online profile picture
1) “Whahoooo!” Party Guy
Of course you want to show that you’re a good time, but putting up a profile picture showing yourself with your mouth wide open, one hand with a beer and the other flashing devil horns sends the message that you’re a drunken buffoon.
Keep the party pics to a minimum in your secondary picture profile and avoid alcohol entirely in your primary online photo. No woman is going to lose interest because you’re NOT drinking in a picture, but plenty will shy away if you look like all you do is get wasted.
2) Whacky Fun Time Guy
Women like guys who are funny and witty. They do not like guys who act like clowns.
Never post a profile picture of you wearing a silly hat or making a goofy face. It makes it look like you’re trying way too hard. There are better ways to show some personality than coming off like the court jester.
3) The Karate Kid
Are you into martial arts? Well keep this in mind–women only think that’s cool if you don’t make a big thing of it.
Posting profile picture of you in your karate gi does not make you look masculine. It makes you look like a kid dressing up for Halloween.
It says, “I got my ass kicked a lot in high school. Now I can break boards with my bare hands. And if I ever go into a real fight… I’d probably get my ass kicked again.”
4) Mr Universe
So you have a nice body, huh? Spend a lot of time at the gym? Fantastic. Now put your shirt back on, Mongo.
Posting a shirtless picture is yet another try-too- hard move. It makes you look egotistical, shallow, and creepy. If you’ve got a nice body, there are plenty of ways to get that across without being shirtless. Choose a shirt that just hints at how fit you are and you’ll go a lot farther than waving your “Look at me!” flag.
5) Sit Around Guy
If every one of your pictures shows you just siting on the coach doing nothing, you look lame and boring. Whenever you’re posting multiple pictures, be sure that at least some of them show you doing interesting things.
Five different angles of you holding your cat isn’t going to cut it. Remember, your online profile is the very first impression that prospective dates have of you. Putting a few minutes of thought into creating the best online profile picture possible really does pay off.
